Mandalay Region

Mandalay Region has a population of over 6 million, its capital Mandalay is the second largest city in Myanmar and is known as a cultural centre. It is also home to Bagan, an expanse of ancient temples remaining from the Pagan Kingdom dating from the 11th century. Agriculture is the main industry of the region, with crops including rice, peanuts, sesame, tobacco and chilli.

Mandalay Region is famed for its woven goods, from baskets to mats, furniture and trays. On every corner in Bagan you will find ingenious creations woven from natural cane and bamboo. Lacquer is also a popular export of the area, the interior of which is constructed from bamboo.
