Black Lacquer Cups | Tea Cups or Mini Bowls | Canape Styling | Event Styling | Small Bowls Teacups Set of Four

These simply elegant tea cups have been made only using ancient techniques and natural materials by Mr Tin and his family in the Unesco heritage site of Bagan in Myanmar.

Each tea cup takes at least 8 months to create and starts with narrow strips of bamboo being sculpted into the required shape. This then has thin layers of lacquer applied by hand, usually taking months to complete, before the surface has reached the level of smoothness and lustre required. The lacquer used in Myanmar is called thit-si (wood resin), which is the sap of the Melanorrhoea usitata, a tree native to Southeast Asia. Only the best quality sap produces the deep glossy black finish.

Small and perfectly formed, the cups measure 5cm high and 9cm at the widest point. These cups would make a unique gift which would fit well into a contemporary or traditional setting.

These tea cups can also be used as bowls for snacks or canapes, and stack into each other beautifully.

They make a great way to serve a small course as part of a dinner party.
