Chin State

Chin State, one of the most western states in Myanmar, is a mountainous and rural region. Chin State is the only state with a Christian majority, and is also one of the most linguistically diverse parts of Myanmar, with many dialects distinct to each ethnic group. Chin State is one of the most undeveloped states in the country with 73% of the population living below the poverty line, and 25% living in extreme poverty.

Chin State is renowned in Myanmar for quality hand-woven textiles. In recent years, there has been a revival in traditional loom weaving methods to make intricate fabrics, providing young women with a livelihood that also preserves their culture.  Motifs of Chin culture are frequently embroidered on the distinctive fabrics.
